Karateka App Reviews

Hiyah!

This was a great experience on consoles, and Im glad to say that doesnt change on iOS. Its also accessible to me, a blind person, so I really cant complain.

Fun

I like the rhythmic fighting and the animations are good. I enjoyed my first play through though I do wish there was a bit of leveling up or achievements involved.

Very fun! Though distinct bugs

I lived the original in the 80s and this one is a fun spin on that. I love the storytelling and the artwork is lovely. The gameplay is just challenging enough to keep me coming back. Unfortunately theres a distinct bug in one section where suddenly the two monks (yourself and your opponent) stop fighting and seem to stare at each other lovingly as the game forces a restart. Im not sure how I ever got past it once before. Otherwise, a very fun game.

Fun, but buggy.

I would have given this a much higher review except that it is buggy. At one point in the sequence when I finished a fight and held the tap to advance to the next, it promptly walked my character off the path into the edge of the virtual world. It then hung. At another point it just hangs at the same point in one of the fights. Hopefully future updates will fix these glitches.

Great game

A lot of fun!!

Glitchy

Glitchy but fun on the new iPad.

Loads of Fun!!!

I used to play the original version, this is pretty much it, but with updated graphics. Simple gameplay, fun.

No rhythm, rhythm game

you must block using a particular pattern. problem is that there is no indication of what that pattern is. the game plays a little ditty, but it is in no way related to the pattern needed. the only thing this has in common with the 80s Karateka us the name. Save your money, I wish I had.

Awesome

I played the original Karateka as a kid and always wondered when Jordan Mechner would remake this game. Well he finally did and its great!

Needs work

You will be forced to watch the backstory every time you start the game (youre rescuing the princess, duh, and she is in THIS castle, surprisingly enough). Designers do not mind interrupting game play with needless cut aways to demonstrate how awesome non-boss opponents are in mid-combat, every time you fight them. You will spend half your time looking at little circles, trying to tap the screen at exactly the right microsecond, instead of watching the game. You might want to rush to the next opponent, but the game will force you to wait until your score is updated before you can run instead of walk. When your character at the moment is defeated, you will be forced to watch the next character climb up the cliffs, along with a clip of how he met the princess. You will also be forced to look at the Game Center leader boards after defeating the final boss, where you will see scores in the lead, are most likely the results of a hack. Demoralizing, in a number of ways. The original promoted a sense of power and control for progressing, but this reminds you that youre playing the game that the designers want you to play. Forget that pride you experienced when you finally figured out how to keep the princess from killing you in the original. Your only value is how high your score is. Id delete it, if I didnt enjoy gazing at my phone intently and tapping at it like a drunken pigeon.

BUGS!!

Fix the bugs!! When I make it to the place where there are two of the same monks i fight the first one. So far so good perfect fight and then its over. Kicks me off. I come back on and I am standing there blocking i cant control and the monk I randomly hitting. My health doesnt go down! Fix this!! Another thing in a way make it more challenging. How I rated: Here is an understanding of my rating: -3 Bugs bad bugs! -1/2 easy -1 not a great game Ik there isnt half a star but that is what I am rating it.

Bam!

This game rocks! Easy to play anywhere and fun as all get out!

Fun!

Is more required of a mobile game? Enjoyable. Smooth. Pleasing.

Karateka the reborn

The promotional video was an excellent way to make me get it but the game is very short I was expecting more for a game so big in sizes 675 MB for just taping the screen on my device a few times just don’t make it. But I did loved the graphics and sounds. Hope they will make an update with more stuff or make a better version for Karateka III.

Real good

Fun to play

It does not work for 4g iPod

Every time I turn it on it crashes and I paid money I am so mad I only gave it one star because I had to

Impressive

The rhythm-based fighting is great. Reminds me of mortal combat

Fun game...

Fan of the original, this updated version is a lot of fun. The game itself is relatively short, and in many ways less challenging than the original, but still very fun to kill time with.

Nice little side scroller.

That is a lot of fun! Just enough of a nod to the original to make you smile.

Cannot play

I loved this game to death on the Ipad, but I cant even play the game on my 4g Itouch 6.1.3. I loads the credits and plays them twice, and when I touch to start starts to play the opening sequence, then crashes. Please fix! I love this game!
